Day 2

A good night's sleep does wonders.  I'm going to try to record some of the additional items I've been seeing around today.  A lot of this is brand new to me, so this may be a long post. Last night, I went to the Krakow Language Exchange Club general meeting.  It was a nice opportunity to socialize, plus I found a new beer I like: Cornelius Grapefruitowy.  How on earth "grapefruit" got translated as a cognate from English, I'll never know, but I'm glad it did.  In addition to the beer, I got to see some of the Kazimierz district, which is very charming.  It reminds me a lot of Mexico; a lot of older buildings with small stores.  At first you think it might be an unkempt or dangerous neighborhood, but then...

Travel and Arrival

Today I finally got to start my long-awaited journey to Kraków!  The first surprise was that my tickets were cleared for extra baggage, so there was no extra fee even though I checked two bags for international flights. The flight out of O'Hare was delayed (anyone surprised?) by about 45 minutes, which was annoying because they packed us all in the plane first.  I did not get the window seat I had reserved for the transoceanic flight, but instead managed to trade my way to an aisle seat.  Still better than something in the middle.  About the equivalent of 4AM, a one-year-old completely lost it, and that same child went for an encore about an hour later.  Thank heavens I wasn't in my original seat (not the window one...
